Microsoft Corporation — in collaboration with its many partners in the public, private, and nongovernmental sectors — is improving public safety and disaster management worldwide by bringing its resources and technology expertise to bear on the problems of helping communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural disasters. Over the years, Microsoft has contributed to responses in many natural disasters around the world. Through those experiences, we have developed a multi-layered approach to disaster management that is increasingly comprehensive and effective in assisting with disaster preparedness, response and recovery worldwide.

Reactively, “Microsoft Disaster Response” is the operational team that provides external support to governments and communities, all over the world principally in natural disasters (for example: China earthquake, Myanmar cyclone, Texas hurricane Ike), and more recently, the Influenza A, in Mexico and other countries.

Proactively, Microsoft works with governments in preparing for and mitigating disasters before disasters happen. In Worldwide Public Sector we have the Government Engagement Program “Disaster Preparedness & Response." The objective of the Microsoft® Disaster Preparedness & Response (Microsoft® DPR) Program is to actively engage with the Public Sector Agencies to contribute in preparedness training, planning and operational capabilities development thru more effective adoption of Information & Communications Technologies (ICTs) before disasters occur. Our vision is to promote technology adoption to allow first responders and humanitarian assistance to better coordinate their response in crisis situations.
